Point Slope Form
How to get the Point Slope Form?
- Visit the official math-tools.com
- Now, Click on the menu and choose from many different mathematics formulas and calculators which is more likely for you to use.
- Open the Point slope form page from the menu option.
- Read the Formula Or you can also copy same as it is in your notebook to use it further.
Various form of a straight line.
Before discussing point slope we must aware of other forms of line. They are as follow intercept form of a line this is very popular because it is easy to use, standard form of a line, a two-point form of a line, the normal form of a straight line, a parametric form of straight line and most important and other forms of the line which we will discuss here is a point slope form of the straight line.
What is the point slope?
It is very useful and easy to understand. We all know what line is, it is a horizontal or vertical line with the two endpoints. there are two basic terms one is point and second is the slope. It is important to identify the slope and a point. If there is a point of a line given to us and slope of a line given to us, Then it will become quite easier for us to take out the equation of that line. we can also find the equation of a line by using point slope form.
The formula of point slope.
y-y1 = m (x-x1)
here,
a. m is a slope of a line.
b. x1 is the points on the given straight line.
c. y1 is the points on the given straight line.
Understanding point slope.
It can be easily understood by the graphical representation. let us draw a graph we all know one is x-axis and other is the y-axis. on that x-axis and the y-axis a line is given to us and we name that line as “l” and on that line, we have one point we marked that point as ‘a’ this line ‘l’ is crossing from the x-axis to the y-axis and that point ‘a’ (x1,y1) it also has an angle of inclination a line id defined by the point and by the angle of inclination. by this, we can easily calculate the slope. The slope is always tan θ. The angle of inclination is always represented by theta.
As we said by using the coordinates of a line and the slope of a line we can easily calculate the equation of a straight line. we know the equation of slope-intercept form this is y = MX + d this line is passing through x1 and y1. Now we will replace the y with ya and x with x1 y1 = mx1 + d. Now we will subtract these both the equations. we will eliminate the intercept ‘d’ because we are not aware of intercept and there is no use of them with this we will get the coordinates of a line.

y-y1 = m(x-x1)
y1 is the coordinate of a line and x1 is also the coordinate of a line and m is our slope.
